The song’s lyrics were talking about the Oaks, maybe? Recently
on almost every other street there’s been a GREEN LEAF Tree Service
sign posted -- old dirty, gritty, recycled signs that Green Leaf
seems to move around our neighborhood and other neighborhoods when their
business is slow, and they need to drum up more.
No wonder their business is slow! They aren’t exactly the kind of company with whom Oaks folks might want to do business. Even if you forgive them for their poor marketing approach, how could any Oaks resident ever forget the native trees they cut down on Live Oak East, including large Coastal Live Oak and California Walnut trees? The trees that were cut down were covered by the city's Native Tree Ordinance, and any reputable landscape company knows, if the trees were to be removed, it would require a city permit. Instead Green Leaf crews did not obtain permits and suspiciously started their work at 4:30 on a Friday afternoon, and tried to finish again on the following Saturday.
The City’s Native Tree Ordinance which took effect last spring
may be put to the test very soon. The Oaks Homeowners Association
has been told that a criminal prosecution against Green Leaf may be filed
by the City Attorney.
Back to the signs... If you see unwanted commercial signs near your home, simply remove them. Technically, they are illegal. We all understand that real estate open house signs are very temporary, and most agents are diligent about displaying them just during the open house period. No problem. However, when the entire area is blanketed by “CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SERVICE” or “GREEN LEAF” signs, that’s when we need to draw the line.
(Note: Most of these signs are recyclable plastic, and can be put into your blue bin.)
