As they have done every year for the last half decade, seven intrepid members of the Oaks Homeowners Association Board put on smart black aprons and became waiters-for-a-night at Vermont Restaurant. It was Tuesday night, March 18th -- Oaks Night at Vermont with a special three-course menu of beautifully prepared sea bass or barbequed ribs or mushroom ravioli or braised oxtails or... oh my gosh, what were the other two? There were six entrees, but it so hard to remember them all, especially when you were a novice waiter with five tables of hungry Oaks neighbors waiting for the next course.
And so the magnificent seven -- Marilyn Johnson, Rainer Standke, Jonathan Corob, John Saurenman, Gerry Hans, Jeff Copans and Bob Young -- did their best to remember who had the goat cheese salad and who had the beet carpaccio. The owners and professional staff of Vermont Restaurant were patient and understanding when the Oaks Board members took a half dozen desserts (chocolate profiteroles) to the wrong table. But eventually every diner got every course and everyone left pleased and full and also rather amused.
All the tips on Oaks Night went to the Oaks Association and will help pay for the Association's work and expenses during the upcoming year. So if you missed all the fun this year, join us next March for another night of superb food and hit-or-miss service by very well meaning people at Vermont Restaurant.
