About the Event
Presentation by representatives from Craftwater Engineering and Friends of
Griffith Park (20 minute presentation, followed by Q & A)
WHAT IS IT?
Friends of Griffith Park was successful in its application for a Los Angeles County Measure W (The Safe, Clean Water Act) Technical Assistant Grant. The grant for a $300,000 Feasibility Study was assigned to Craftwater and has been progressing since last fall. The focus is stormwater capture, purification, and storage. The water drainage for the project includes nearly 400 acres, mostly from park canyons, but also from Black Oak Drive and Red Oak Drive areas.
BUT WHAT ELSE?
Restoring continuous flowing water in the higher streams of Fern Dell is another goal. The original, broken stream recirculation system will be replaced with a state-of-the-art system, so water will once again flow gently year-round in upper Fern Dell. Other benefits may include a renewed irrigation system utilizing stored water, more native plants and ferns, and even infrastructure repairs to the historic WPA-era walls, waterfall, and grotto.
WHY ATTEND? We want everyone to know about the exciting prospects ahead for Fern Dell. The Oaks community’s priorities can be taken into account during this outreach period. Temporary inconveniences during construction are inevitable, such as parking lot repaving and storage tank installation. Concerns can be addressed at this early stage at the Town Hall scheduled for Tuesday, Feb 20th at 7pm. This will be a ZOOM meeting – the Zoom link will be forthcoming in a later e-mail. We hope you will attend this important meeting!
