AN IMPORTANT UPDATE ON THE OAKS BECOMING A FIREWISE FIRESAFE COMMUNITY

ree

As a follow up to our March 12th Oaks Neighborhood Association annual meeting and our community Zoom with MySafe:LA's Dante Cornejo, we're excited to announce that The Oaks Neighborhood Association is actively working toward becoming a nationally recognized Firewise USA site though the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Although the Firesafe project will include our entire community, we would like to thank those of you who showed your support for the Firewise project by signing up. Your initial action created the nexus for this important projecto to get off the ground.

We are working closely with MySafe:LA to accomplish this endeavor. This important designation reflects a community’s commitment to reducing wildfire risk and increasing safety for all residents. We’ve already taken key initial steps by meeting with community members, outlining the official Firewise community boundary and scheduling our Community Wildfire Risk Assessment.

Following the assessment, we’ll develop a tailored 3-Year Action Plan to address local wildfire risks and identify practical, achievable projects that residents can take part in to create a safer, more fire-resilient neighborhood. The work we do together may also qualify our community for some insurance benefits as well.  We look forward to working together with MySafe:LA on this important initiative and will continue to share updates as we move through each phase of the recognition process.

In the meantime, as we are moving into our main fire season, look at your property. See if there’s any dead vegetation that could be raked up or cut down, check if your gutters and roofs are free of leaves and pine needles, put together a Go-Bag, and think about doing a video of your home’s rooms and contents. Stay safe and stay tuned for more from us!

With warmest regards,

Kelly Lynch and your Oaks Neighborhood Association Firewise Committee
